Fondazione Golinelli and Alma Mater bet on Big Data and Industry 4.0
The largest doctoral school in Data Science and Computation at the European level that aims to become an international excellence in the field of Big Data and Data Science has been created.
Approved the 7th March, 2017 by the Academic Senate and the Board of Directors of Alma Mater, the project has already garnered the interest of Politecnico di Milano, Cineca, CNR, INFN, Italian Institute of Technology and the ISI Foundation. The Emilia-Romagna region also declared it was ready to support the initiative.
Industry 4.0, Bioinformatics and Big Data are just some of the innovative areas in which is going to be inserted the new PhD program in Data Science and Computation Date activated by the University of Bologna and Fondazione Golinelli. It is an innovative course, with a large multidisciplinary breath, which aims to become an international excellence in the field of Big Data and Data Science, ranging from Economics and Finance to Materials and Industry 4.0, from Medicine to Bioinformatics and Genomics , from Hardware and Infrastructure to Machine Learning and Deep Learning, up to the Computational Physics. The PhD will be functional to support research also for important areas of the activities of the Data Center of the European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), which, as recently announced, will move from Reading to the city of Bologna.
The activation of the school, which would offer an expected minimum of 18/20 quadrennial scholarships with a research grant, had been announced on 10th November, 2016 by the Rector of the University of Bologna Francesco Ubertini, the president of Fondazione Golinelli Andrea Zanotti and Rector of the Politecnico di Milano Giovanni Azzone Golinelli, during a meeting at Opificio Golinelli in the presence of the former Minister Stefania Giannini.
